PIZZA!

Like most good Americans, one of my favorite foods is pizza, just about any kind: NY thin crust, Grandma Pie, Sicilian, hell, even that weird cracker-like thin crust from Dominos is good from time to time. My point is, I don't discriminate. Knowing this, my wife, Meg, thought it would be fun if every week or so of the 40th year of my life that we would try different pizza in our area here in NC and on our various travels and come up with some sort of rating system. That has since evolved into an idea for a blog to go with it, and now, a trip in March to the birthplace of pizza, Napoli! I'm going to start with the below rating system based on a sliding scale of 1 through 10, and then keep a series of rolling top-three to five lists based on style once I have enough entries. All of this, of course, is subject to change as it's my goddamn rating scale, and I'll do as I please. Hope you enjoy it! - Brian Crust Sauce Cheese Cook Visual Total ...

When It's Pizza On a Bagel, You Can Eat Pizza Anytime

Image
Benchwarmers Bagels 500 East Davie St, Raleigh NC February 7, 2020 OK, so my title is misleading but I couldn't resist (thanks Dustin). Their pizza isn't really served on bagels, it's just a killer wood-fired bagel spot that now has pizza night on "Thursdayz and Fridayz." Sicilian style pizza to be specific, one of my personal favorites. I'm also a bit backlogged on posts so expect a few of these in the next couple of days.  Benchwarmers Bagels opened up last year in our new favorite spot, Transfer Food Hall . If you haven't been we highly recommend it. They did a great job rehabbing an old building while keeping its original charm, and there are some really nice local flourishes throughout. They really kept an emphasis on that (unlike Raleigh's other food hall) and it's much appreciated. There are a wide variety of food options, from burgers to Indian, to bagels, but our favorite is definitely Locals Seafood. Check this place out ...

Pizzeria Faulisi - One of Our Personal Favorites

Image
Pizzeria Faulisi 215 E Chatham St.  Cary, NC 27511 January 31, 2020 We really love this hidden gem in downtown Cary, and I think this was either our second or third visit. In my opinion, it's one of the best Napoli style pizza joints in the Triangle. As an added bonus, it's only a few miles from our house in West Raleigh. Meg and I went mostly low carb in January, Dudebro aside for myself, to recover from the abundance of delicious garbage food we indulged in over the holidays. Therefore, this is the first proper entry to this blog. We really went for it and got three different pies because we were both quite hungry and so we'd have leftovers for brunch the next day. We started with a traditional Margherita and then each picked one of the more exotic pies, the Baby Goat for Meg, and the Red, White, & Blue for me.  Margherita Margherita Close-Up The Margherita Appearance: 9/10 , Napoli pies typically don't get much better looking ...

Dudebro 2020 in Richmond!

Image
Triple Crossing Beer - Downtown Location 113. S. Foushee St. Richmond, VA 23220 So the first entry of this pizza blog is a bit unusual in that I ate it in Richmond, and I got it in a brewery. Every year over the long MLK weekend, I go on an annual dudes' trip dubbed Dudebro. This was year ten, although it was only year six for myself. I was a late addition having married into the group and gaining entry through my brother-in-law, Mickey. I'm lucky in that aspect as I gained nine good friends in my thirties which is no easy feat. Onto the pizza. It was day three of Dudebro, and I was in typical day-three shape, that is to say, rough. I needed food and needed it badly. We walked from our AirBnB across the James river towards downtown Richmond to the day's first brewery, Triple Crossing Beer. I so desperately wanted this place to have some food...any food. Turns out they pretty much offer one thing: PIZZA!  As it turns out, Triple Crossing has a secondary location...
